3) Who is the audience for your work? Do you ever ‘converse’ with other artists, dead or alive, through your work?
I have vain fantasies of being in the collections of some of my favorite artists like Lauri Anderson, David Byrne, Robert Gober, Robert Theirien, Richard Long, Anish Kapoor, and recently Grayson Perry, but I don’t talk with them much while I’m working. And I do hear the voices (as memories from some of our past conversations) of some of my best professors while I’m working, like Ron Nagle, Ann Currier, Tony Hepburn, Catherine Wagner, Jeff Kelly even Wayne Higby from time to time. However mostly the people I really want to have a dialog with are scientist in the fields of physics and genetics, the two both have a fascinating relationship to the micro and macrocosm, but in reality most scientists do, it’s just a matter of degree. |
