| Same
but Different, 2004: On more then one occasion I have
been accused of black and white thinking. I consider this
piece a self portrait. One theory is that we become new
people every seven years, the old cells die and we regenerate
into new beings. What might we become seven years from
now? We are the same person, but only in memory. We look
the same… sort of. Our family and loved ones can recognize
us after many years even with all the changes our body
has undergone, why? Seven ½ spheres hover on the wall
in the form of almost a question mark. The piece is my
height, and stretches around me, my arms length. One thing
I know about myself is that my thinking is circular. The
grid in the center can pass light through when viewed
from a certain prospective, but the viewer is looking
into darkness. Ultimately, I don’t really know what this
all means, but making it helps me to slowly put the pieces
together. |
