People in today’s society find it easy to become
caught in the grind of the work force. Roberts approaches
this idea in his piece “Disembodied Corporate Meditation”.
The initial impression is somewhat uncomfortable; a second
look might make it appear that the briefcase is giving
birth to the male form, or that the male form is being
consumed by the briefcase. Whether the torso is brought
to life by the briefcase or meeting its end at its clutches,
the image questions the posture of work. The briefcase,
which embodies the everyday work force is here dominant
over the human form. This piece turns our thoughts
and emotions inward and at the same time makes a statement
on the conditions of human society today.
