Passion Flower Vine I,
2005, from the Pollen-nation series
10-½" x 10-½" x 11-¾"

I began by taking air and pollen sample from my back yard in San Francisco to a lab on the UC Berkeley campus. A kind palio-biologist helped me to photograph the pollen grains. From the photographs I carved the individual pollens I found, out of honeycomb ceramics. Honeycomb ceramics are manufactured to produce a catalyst environment for molecular change; in essence they are filters. Lovegrass, was the first pollen finished in 1998.
